"She appears to have come over from Holland some years after her father had settled at Flatlands, L.I. Her name and that of her husband appear on the baptismal record of the Flatbush Dutch Church as witnesses at the baptism of Steven, son of her brother Lucas Stevense Van Voorhees and Catherine Hansen Van Noortstrand on Sept. 16, 1677. No record found of any children."

She [Hendrickje Stevense] and Jan Kiers emigrated with her father and family on the ship "de Bonte Koe" 15 April 1660. The record says "Jan Kiers, farmer and wife from Drenthe." They settled in Flatlands. On 11 June 1677 they sponsored for the son of Hendrick Jansen and Geurtjen Hendricks at the Brooklyn Ref. Ch. and on 16 Sept they sponsored for Steven the son of her half-brother Lucas at the Flatbush Ref. Ch.
Jan Kiersz and wife Hendrickje Stevens from Amersfoort are listed as members of the New Utrecht church 1680-81. On 31 Jul 1681 they sponsor at the same church for the son of Jan Clemente and Maria Bogert. Sometime later they returned to Holland to attend to their property at Stynwick in Drenthe as per letter from Hilbert Coert to Coert Stevense dated 9 Feb 1687.
A Jan Kiersen took the oath of allegiance in September of 1687 in New Utrecht, stating that he had been in the country for 38 years. If this record refers to Jan Kiers, husband of Hendrickje van Voorhees he was in the colony as early as 1649.
On 29 Mar 1696 Jan Kiersen and Hendrickje Jans were sponsors at Brooklyn for the son of her half-brother Jan. In the census of 1698 the family is listed as 1 man 1 woman and 1 servant.
The will of Jan Kiersens of the town of Flattlands in Kings County on Nassau Island (Long Island) was dated 4 August 1705 and probated 3 September 1705. Very sick and weak in body he mentions his brothers and sisters in Holland (who are not named), his brother Koert Stevensen, his wife's sister Maritie who lived in Holland, his wife's half-brothers and half-sisters names Lucas Stevensen, John Stevensen, Albert Stevensen and the heirs of Aeltie Stevensen, the heirs of Jannetje Stevensen and the heirs of Hendrickkie Stevensen. The executor was Koert Stevensen; witnesses Garitt Stoothoff, Dirk Amerman, Jan Terhunen and Samuel Garretsen.
