Hazel Swanson Roney June 7 MEBANE — Mrs. Hazel Swanson Roney, 88, of 2301 Barnett Road, entered the Church Triumphant on Thursday morning, June 7, 2007, at her home after one year of declining health.

A native of Clay County, she was the wife of the late James A. Roney Sr., and the daughter of the late Charles Z. Swanson and Mae Green Swanson. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a member of Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, where she was actively involved. She volunteered at the hospital for over 30 years and at Good Shepherd Kitchen.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn R. Turner and husband, George Lynn, of Pisgah Forest, N.C.; a son, Mr. James A. Roney Jr. and wife, Carolyn, of Mebane; one sister, Jessie Penland of Hayesville, N.C.; a brother, Clinton Swanson of Oracle, Ariz.; four grandchildren, George L. Turner Jr. and wife, Joyce, of Fort. Mill, S.C., Jeff Turner and wife, Michele, of Matthews, N.C., Carrie Ward and husband, Mike, of Mebane, and Jennifer Gwyn and husband, Stephen, of Richmond, Va.; six great-grandchildren, Mark, Sarah, Emily, Matthew, Lee and James; a special brother-in-law, Henry B. Roney Jr. of Mebane; and a sister-in-law, Nancy R. Covington of Mebane.

A service of celebration will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Tempe Fussell. Burial will follow in Cross Roads Presbyterian Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the residence.
