Benzie Banner; 1941 ---- Researched; Nov. 24, 1998 May 29, - Harry Erwin Priest ; Obituary ( B.B. Pg. 8 ) Obituary - Harry Erwin Priest; Harry Erwin Priest, the third son of solomon and Lillian Priest, was born in Ottawa county, Michigan on July 22, 1883. He spent his childhood in southern Michigan and came to Benzonia with his parents at 20 years of age. Within two years his father and mother had departed this life and the responsibility of caring for the children was shared by Harry and his brother, Albert. Alberts wife mothered the small children and Harry continued a member of their household until March 8, 1919 when he was united in marrage with Grace Myrtle Long of Benzonia. Twelve children were born to this union and eleven survive, one having died in infancy. They are Donald of Fort Sheridan, Ill.; Erwin, Dorothy, Harry Jr., Roberta, Benjamin, William, Thomas, Charles, Lloyd, Betty Lou, all at home. He is also survived by one sister, Nina, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and four brothers, Albert of Elberta; George of Benzonia; John fo Beulah; and Orla, who has made his home with Harry for many years. The early married life of the family was spent on a farm in Joyfield. The family moved to Benzonia in 1925 and in 1927 Harry went to work for the Ann Arbor railroad where he has continued in loyal service for nearly 14 years. A few years ago he arranged to purchase the Morning - star far east of Benzonia and moved his family to this permanent home. He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be missed by all of us, including many relatives and friends, having departed this life on May 24, at the Frankfort hospital. The funeral was held at the Priest home on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o;clock with Rev. O. A. Schulz of Benzonia conducting the service. Burial was made at the Benzonia Twp. cemetery. Researched; Jan. 13, 17, 1999
