Benzonia Library; Mills Community House; Benzonia, MI. Benzie Banner; 1937 --------------------------- Oct. 14,- "Five Students Escape As Auto Overturns" ( Pg. 1 ) ----- Five members of the Benzonia high school biology class escaped serious injury Tuesday morning when an automobile in which they were riding overturned a mile east of town while the group was returning from the school forest in Homestead township. Irvin Pries, driver of the machine, reported to Superintendent A. N. Nesman that the accident was unavoidable. He was driving about 40 miles an hour in a sleet storm, it is said, when the automobile struck a bad spot in the road just as he reached upward to adjust the wind shild wiper. He lost control of the machine and it overturned. A physician examind the boys and found their injuries to be of a minor nature. One student's sprained wrist was the most serious injury. The boys with Irvin Priest were David Porter, Billy Sherry, Douglas Joy and Bernard Lathwell. They were returning to school after setting out trees in the forest, one of the class projects. The autombile was damaged considerable. Entry date; Dec. 1, 2000
