Facts and Events
Hannah Webster was born about 1781 in Northfleet, Kent, England, the third known daughter of John and Elizabeth Webster of Northfleet. She was baptised at St. Botolph's Church, Northfleet, Kent, England on 25 Dec 1781. Her parents had six more children, bringing the number of known siblings to eight. It's not known what her father's occupation was but one sister married a sawyer, a brother became an agricultural labourer and another became a sawyer. There were quite a lot of other Webster families in the area at the time. On 15 Jul 1799 at the age of 17 Hannah married 21 year-old ship caulker Owen Skinner Ingram at St. Botolph's Church, Northfleet, Kent, England. Witnesses were John Randfield and Mary Alexander. Hannah and Owen had the following children, all born in Northfleet and baptised at St. Botolph's: 1. Owen bap. 6 Apr 1800, bur. at St. Botolph's 2 Dec 1802 Sometime between 1807 and 1809 the family moved to Poplar, London, where they had more children: 6. William b. 21 Sep 1809 in Rotherhithe and bap. 15 Oct 1809 at St. Mary's Church, Rotherhithe Hannah had twelve children between 1800 and 1822, and was 41 when her eldest child was born. Although it is unusual to name children Eliza and Elizabeth, both lived to adulthood, and Eliza named her own children Eliza and Elizabeth. Hannah's father John died and was buried 23 Sep 1823 at St. Botolph's Church, Northfleet, Kent, England. Her husband Owen died shortly after in 1824 at the age of 46 and was buried 18 Apr 1824 at All Saints Church, Poplar. Hannah was now a widow with ten children under the age of 20 to support. In 1832 the first of Hannah's children to marry was Owen Skinner, who worked as a caulker and licensed victualler. Owen Sr. had worked as a licensed victualler and perhaps Owen Jr. took over the business when his father died. He died just five years later in June 1837. In July 1837 Hannah's daughter Eliza married waterman Joseph Egalton, and daughter Elizabeth married George Pattman in 1838. On 8 Jan 1841 son Thomas Owen wed Arabella Redknap, followed on 19 Jan by daughter Sarah marrying Joseph Richardson. I've not yet managed to find Hannah on the 1841 census. In 1844 son John Thomas married Jane Toovey, and in 1845 Nancy married John Wilson. In the 1851 census Hannah was living at 12 Paradise Row, Albion Rd in Brompton, London, with her daughter Nancy, her husband John Wilson (a coachman) and two children. In 1854 the last of her children to marry, William, wed Esther Parker. In the 1861 census Hannah was living at Shepherds Bush, 26 Providence Place in Hammersmith, again with Nancy, her husband John Wilson (a bus driver), their 5 children and a lodger who worked as a bus conductor. Hannah died due to "diarrhoea for 2 weeks" at the age of 86 on 2 Apr 1868 at 1 Russel Street in Poplar, the home of her daughter Eliza Egalton. Two of Owen and Hannah's descendants married descendants of John and Rebecca Egalton. Their child Eliza Ingram married Joseph Egalton, son of John and Rebecca and their great-grandchild Rosetta Whitfield married Henry Charles Young, the gr-gr-granddaughter of John and Rebecca. Descendants of Owen and Hannah currently live in England, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
