    Glenn grew up on his parents farm with his two brothers. Being the oldest he was put to work the farm chores early. Clayton, his father, had a poor heart from Scarlet fever, and Glenn helped more and more every year. His mother would often call Glenn's high school principal and ask to send Glenn home as soon as possible to help out.
    Glenn was good at school work and enjoyed and was able to graduate even though he missed much of his senior year because of farm commitments and his father's poor health.
