Giles William Blietz Funeral services for Giles William Blietz, 82, Monona, were held Monday, March 29, 1999, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monona, with burial at the church cemetery. Father Daniel Keppler officiated. Honorary pallbearers were Art Voss, Harold Vorwald, Robert Kiseau, Roger Geraghty, Mike Looney, L'Dean Henkes, Franklin Schlitter, Jim McNally Sr., Gilbert Wiethorn and Dale Henning. Pallbearers were Jim Moritz, Brian Blietz, Justin Blietz, Brent Blietz, Gerad Blietz, Brian Middendorf and Ross Wiebold. He was born September 1, 1916, in Giard Township, the son of William and Mary (Lestina) Blietz. He received his education at the Cooper Valley School, St. Patrick's Parochial School and Monona High School. Giles was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie Jarms July 11, 1939, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monona. Giles farmed in the Monona and Garnavillo area all of his life. After retiring in 1987, Giles and Dorothy moved to Monona. Giles was a life member of the Knights of Columbus. He died Friday, March 26, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Home, Postville. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; four sons, Roger (Helen) Blietz, Cedar Rapids, Dean Blietz, Ft. Myers, Fla., Rich (Laurie) Blietz, McGregor, and Kevin Blietz, Albuquerque, N.M.; one daughter, Marleen (Gary) Moritz, Monona; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Marion and Rodger, and two children, Elaine and Gary, who died in infancy. __________________________ Gazette, The (Cedar Rapids-Iowa City, IA) - March 27, 1999 Giles Blietz, 82, died Friday, March 26, 1999, in Good Samaritan Home, Postville, after a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial: St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Schultz's Funeral Home, where there will be a rosary at 7:30 p.m. and a Scripture service at 8 p.m. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; four sons, Roger of Cedar Rapids, Dean of Fort Meyer, Fla., Rick of McGregor and Kevin of Albuquerque, N.M.; and a daughter, Marleen Moritz of Monona.
