Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 5, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :
- Stevens, Gilbert - born 1760 in Augusta County (area later Rockingham County), Virginia; entered service 1776 in Washington County, Virginia, in Virginia regiment; moved after Revolutionary War to North Carolina, thence to Morgan County, Kentucky, there granted Pension in 1834; died 2/16/1852 there; married 1796-97 to Nancy Osborn, Lee County, Virginia; widow granted Pension 1854 age 87 in Morgan County, Kentucky; Hannah Blivins made affidavit then abt. age 94 Lawrence County, Kentucky, that she knew soldier & wife before & after they married & they had 10 children; Jesse Osborn (no kinship given) made affidavit then age 73 in Morgan County, Kentucky, he was age 15-16 when soldier & wife married at house of Thomas Leddenton & he was at wedding per witness Stephen Stephens (no kinship given); widow granted Bounty Land Warrant 44805 there in 1855 age 88 per witness Solomon Stevens (no kinship given); Jesse Osborn (no kinship given) made affidavit then in Johnston County, Kentucky that soldier & wife's 1st child was daughter Milly; soldier's son Andrew made affidavit then Morgan County, Kentucky that he was born 9/29/1800 & parent's endest child born 6/11/1798 & his other 8 siblings all still living; surname also spelled Stephens.
