    "4. Gershom3 Hale (Gershom,2 John1), born at Concord, Mass., 5 Feb. 1684/5, died at Windham, Conn., in 1777; married first, Mercy ____; married second, Margaret _____. He came with his father's family to Springfield, Mass. By 1726 he was of Stafford, Conn. On 22 Oct. 1747, he and his son Israel bought land in Canterbury and Windham, Conn. The will of Gershom Hale of Windham, made 27 Apr. 1768, proved 4 Apr. 1777, named son Gershom; granddaughter Mercy Chamberlain; son Israel to provide for 'me and my wife Margaret'; Israel not to convey real estate without consent of his [Israel's] two sons, Gershom Hale and Benjamin Hale. Witnesses: Benjn Cleaveland, Rachel Cleaveland, Samll Hovey, Junr. But on 20 June 1778 Gershom Hale of Windham sold to Jabez and Jerusha Fox."
