George was born Dec. 15, 1919 in Cuba, Ala. to the late Callie and George W. Tate, Sr. He attended Texas Tech. Mr. Tate served as staff sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps. from 1942 until 1945. He married his soulmate, Kathryn Jones June 20, 1946 in Clovis, N.M. George owned Tate Poultry and Egg, and then worked in the livestock business before going to work as an egg inspector for the Texas Dept. of Agriculture until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the Lubbock Ranglers Riding Association and the Mens Bowling Association, being the first man in Lubbock to bowl a 300 game.

George leaves behind his beloved wife, Kathryn; two daughters, Jenny Tate of San Diego, Calif. and Beverly Tate Cook of Lubbock; four granddaughters, Kimberly Cook Schwintz of Lubbock, Kelli Dickson and husband Justin of Lubbock, Cori and Brittany Tate of San Diego, Calif.; and a great granddaughter, Ainsley of Lubbock.

A brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
