On the1860 census in Laurel Twp., Hocking Co., Oh. with parents, age 8, called Westley.[p 156 fam #983/971] On the 1870 census, age 17, called George W., working on father's farm. [p 489 fam 212/212] We are told by Frances Robertson that "George Strohl founded the town of Almeria [Nebraska]. He was the first Postmaster General. when the time came to vote if Almeria or Taylor should be the county seat, Almeria lost by 2 votes. He donated the land for the cemetery and he, an infant daughter, Jesse, and his father, John, are buried there."
