WILL OF GEORGE RUTLEDGE, AUGUSTA CO, VA RECORDS 15 Jan 1824 (Copy)
"In the name of God Amen. This Will is to Show that I GEORGE RUTLEDGE of Augusta County and State of Virginia being at preasent in a low State of health by in my right mind and knowing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death do make this my last Will and Testament....
1st, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife MARY RUTLEDGE the one third of my land her lifetime and the property that is in the house and on the farm is not to be sold, but kept for the use of the family to raise and school them ..
Item 2 I give and bequeath to my three sons to wit GEORGE, EDWARD and WILLIAM J. RUTLEDGE the plantation I now live on known by the name of flag Spring...(division described of the land) KEERS (KERR) MILL is mentioned as marker
Item 3 - My oldest son GEORGE RUTLEDGE is to own the divide where I know live the Flag Spring where the Girls is to have a home and a horse kept as long as they remain single
Item 4 - EDWARD RUTLEDGE, my second son is to own the upper divide adjoinging the granite road where ELIJAH RUTLEDGE now lives

               George Rutledge had a brother named Enos Rutledge, and  supposedly, Edward R. Rutledge,  
               one of the signers of the  Declaration of Independence was an uncle of George Rutledge.

AUGUSTA CO, VA, MARRIAGE RECORDS BOND 7 MAY 1800 - (Copy) "Know all Men by these Presents, That we GEORGE RUTLEDGE and THOMAS GALBRAITH both of AUGUSTA CO, are held and firmly bound unto His Excellecy James ...., Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and his successors, for the use of the Commonwealth, in the sum of one hundred and fifty Dollars, to which payment well and true to be made, we do bind ourselves, and every of us, our, and every of our Heirs, Executors and Administrators, jointly and severally by these Presents. Witness our hands and seals, the Seventh day of May in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred. The Condition of the above Obligation is such,that whereas a marriage is shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound GEORGE RUTLEDGE, Bachelor, and MARY GALBRAITH spinster daughter of THOMAS GALBRAITH, dec. late of Augusta County, if therefore there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, the the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force.
