The body of George Montgomery, 59, was found in a coal shed near his home alongside the Milwaukee railroad tracks Friday afternoon, April 5.

Coroner E.W. Tuecke of Garnavillo pronounced the death a suicide as a result of hanging. He had been in poor health for several years, which is thought to have attributed to his act. A physician who was called set the time of his death at approximately 3:15 o'clock.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the Schultz Funeral home with Father Luke Donlon officiating. Burial was in the City cemetery.

He was born June 9, 1886, at Monona, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Montgomery. He was married to Miss Anna Holly at Monona Sept. 5, 1906. The couple moved to Marquette, where Mr. Montgomery was an employee of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific railroad, being yardmaster during World war I. For the last 18 years, he lived in Monona, being section foreman. He worked for the Milwaukee railroad for 41 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Walter (Arlene) Lestina of Ossian, Mrs. Leo (Margarete) Lettington of McGregor and Mrs. Anna Rittenhouse of Cedar Rapids; three sons, John W. of Austin, Minn., George E. of Dubuque, and Donald F. of Monona; two sisters, Mrs. Ray Ferguson of Monona and Mrs. Don Palmer of Alden; two brothers, Frank of Monona and Charles of Sheldon and 13 grandchildren.
