From George Gale's 1866 Gale Family Records: Mr. Gale, in 1866, was a prominent wholesale leather merchant, at No. 2, Ferry St., with the firm J. R. Plum and Gale of New York. Later, addressed at 42 Spruce St., this firm became associated with United States Leather Company. Home was at 140 Henry St. in Brooklyn Heights.

From New York Times, 3 Dec 1913: Frank A. Gale, 78 years old, and for forty years a leather merchant, is dead at his home, 140 Henry St., Brooklyn.

From Frank Norcross 1901 History of the New York Swamp: Frank was born on Ann Street. He was with H. D. Hull & Co. from 1856 to 1868. Then he joined James R. Plum as J. R. Plum & Gale, tanners. Mr. Plum was a director in the Importers' and Traders' Bank and treasurer of the United States Leather Company.
