Facts and Events
Francis, the First, is the progenitor and ancestor of the Farleys in Summers County. He was buried one mile below the mouth of Indian Creek on the James Dickinson Farm now in Forest Hill District, Summers County. He was married about 1725, the name of his first wife is unknown. He later married Elizabeth Crostic who was born in North Carolina, she died at the age of 79 and was buried on the James Dickinson Farm (Forrest Hill District, Summers County). This cemetery is now covered with the back flow of the water of the New River from the Bluestone Dam. His children as follows: Francis, the Second, Thomas Sr., John, Matthew, and Booker. Thomas Sr. was the builder of Farley's fort at the lower end of Crumps Bottom and was the Indian fighter in the Revolutionary War. Thomas Sr. married Judith Clay, a cousin of Henry Clay in about 1754. |
