Eli Ashley was engaged in farming in Westfield, MA, his native place. His house stood on Elm St. and was built by Calvin Noble about 100 years ago [per letter from Mr. Henry Ashley of Westfied]. After Mr. Ashley's death the family continued to reside there, and his youngest son inherited it and began housekeeping there. The old house was torn down in 1890-91.

Mrs. Ashley united with the First Congregational Church of West Springfield in 1799, and was received into the First Congregational Church of Westfield by letter on May 8, 1803 [her will, dated 20 Dec 1849, proved in Mar. 1853, mentions her three sons: "William is in prosperous circumstances." (Hampden Co. Prob. Rec., Vol. 22, p 30.)
