Facts and Events
Eli Ashley was engaged in farming in Westfield, MA, his native place. His house stood on Elm St. and was built by Calvin Noble about 100 years ago [per letter from Mr. Henry Ashley of Westfied]. After Mr. Ashley's death the family continued to reside there, and his youngest son inherited it and began housekeeping there. The old house was torn down in 1890-91. Mrs. Ashley united with the First Congregational Church of West Springfield in 1799, and was received into the First Congregational Church of Westfield by letter on May 8, 1803 [her will, dated 20 Dec 1849, proved in Mar. 1853, mentions her three sons: "William is in prosperous circumstances."
