Emma Mitchell was baptised on 22nd January 1832 in Warwick, daughter of Mary Mitchell, formerly Piggot, and her husband William Mitchell, a maltster. Emma appears to have been the fifth of seven children. At the time of Emma's baptism the family was living at Smith Street. The 1841 census finds Emma living with her parents and siblings at Satchell Court on Bowling Green Street.

By 1851 the family had moved to Pigwell Lane. They moved again before the 1861 census, when they appear on Saltisford, the main road leading out of Warwick to the north-west. By this time, Emma was working as a general servant.

In July 1862, Emma was admitted to the Warwick County Asylum. It was to be her last home. She stayed in the asylum for just over six months. She died on 15th January 1863, aged about 31.
