Edward Turner was baptised on 26th May 1767 at Heckington in Lincolnshire, son of Elizabeth Turner, formerly Gray, and her husband Philip Turner, a farmer.

When Edward's father Philip died in 1803, Edward was one of the main beneficiaries of his father's will, along with his brother John. Edward's mother died in 1818. No evidence has been found to suggest that Edward married.

In 1838, Edward was described in his brother John's will as a farmer of Bicker, a few miles south-east of Heckington. He appears living at Bicker Fen in the 1841 census, living with just a housekeeper.

In 1845, when he was about 78 years old, Edward was the victim of a burglary. He was trapped in his room whilst the burglars ransacked his house unsuccessfully for money. It would appear that Edward had recently sold some hoggets (young sheep) and possibly his attackers expected there to be money on the premises. He had to hand over the few shillings he did have there, and the burglars also made off with some bacon. Edward was left trapped in his room until the following morning when his labourer found him.

Edward died on 22nd May 1848 at Bicker, aged about 81 years old. He left a will, but this has yet to be researched.

BICKER.-During the night of Monday week, some daring vallains broke into the house of Mr. Edward Turner, of Bicker Fen; they first fastened Mr. Turner in his chamber, and then proceeded to search the house for money, which they could not find. After having eaten and drank what suited their appetites, they went to Mr. Turner and demanded what money he had (consisting of a few shillings), which were given to them; they then took a quantity of bacon and other articles away, leaving Mr. Turner confined in his room, in which condition he was found by his labourer next morning. Mr. Turner had sold a quantity of hoggets a few days previous, but fortunately the money obtained from the sale was not in his house.
