Mary Turner was baptised on 6th February 1757 at Heckington in Lincolnshire, daughter of Elizabeth Turner, formerly Gray, and her husband Philip Turner, a farmer. Mary was the first of ten children, although three of her younger siblings (including the two closest in age to her) died as children. There were never more than seven children alive at any one time.

In 1780, aged 23, Mary married a labourer named John Clarricoats. They went on to have four children baptised at Heckington between 1780 and 1791. John worked as a labourer.

John died in 1797, aged about 45 years old.

Mary's youngest daughter, Ann Turner Clarricoats, died in 1801, aged 10. Mary's father died in 1803. He left her twenty pounds in his will. Mary's mother died in 1818.

It would appear that Mary occupied about six acres of pasture land at Heckington, close to the village and adjoining the main road towards the nearby town of Sleaford. After her death the land was put up for sale. Mary's younger brother John Turner (who was a farmer in Heckington) was involved in showing the land to potential purchasers.

Mary died at Heckington on 18th November 1831, aged 74. She had been a widow for 34 years.

Although listed under 1756, the baptisms are clearly arranged running from Lady Day (25 March), as had been the custom prior to the calendar change four years earlier. This entry is clearly at the end of the 1756 list, a little before the "Anno 1757" heading which occurs between March 21 and March 27. It is therefore fairly clear that this entry is actually for 6 Feb 1757.

There was another Mary Clarricoats of a similar age, who was buried at Heckington on 19th May 1839 as "Mary Clattercoats alias Clarricoats", aged 83. However, the 1831 death is considered to be the right one on the basis that shortly after the 1831 death notices were placed in the local newspaper advertising the sale of some land at Heckington, with further details available from John Turner, who was brother of the Mary who had married John Clarricoats.
