Downey McCutchan was the son of Capt. Samuel McCutchan and Rebecca Downey. There are several different death dates for him, 17 July 1753, 1 July 1852 and 18 July 1850. The last was recorded by the W.P.A. Historical Inventory survey of Shemariah in 1936. He married Nancy Laprada/e Blanks on 6th June 1804 in Augusta Co., Virginia.
He is listed in the Augusta Co. Death Register, line 171.

It looks like he served in the War of 1812 as a Captain. The Augusta County, VA Order Book #36, 1816 - 1818, page 263 lists John Dunlap as Captain of Infantry in 93rd Regt. in the __?__ (hard to read, maybe says comm, for command) of Downey McCutcheon resigned. See photo.
