Parentage

Dorcas Allison and her sister Phoebe, are thought to be the daughters of William Allison and his first wife, Sarah Robertson. They appear to be the "daughters" [should be granddaughters] listed in the will of their grandfather William Robertson (1718-1812) of Augusta County, Virginia, as shown below:

  • Page 165 - - 29th May, 1809. William Robertson's will - - To son, Mathew; son-in-law, Robt. Givens; to son, James; son-in-law, Thos. Downey; estate to be divided into equal shares, and one share to each, viz: son, James; daughter, Jane, wife to John Givens; daughter, Isabella, wife to George Givens; daughter, Elizabeth, wife to Robt. Douglass; daughter, Lettice, wife to William Rankin; grandson, Edward Downing, son to Thomas; daughter, Rebecca, wife to David White; to Lettice and Ann Robertson, daughters; to son, Alexander; to Dorcas and Phoebe Allison, daughters. Teste: Wm. Patrick, John Porterfield, Chas. Patrick. Proved, 26th October, 1812. Givens and Robertson qualify. Patrick refuses.

Note: William Robertson, the grandfather of Dorcas and Phoebe did NOT have daughters of those names, and since his daughter Sarah, who married William Allison, had died in 1791 (Source: Stone Church Cemetery Records), William Robertson named his granddaughters and provided for them in his will.
