In Penobscot at 1850 census with $55 in real estate. In Castine at 1860, with real estate valued at $150 and personal estate valued at $200. In Stockton at 1870 with real estate valued at $1200 and personal estate valued at $500. In Rockland at 1880 census. Civil War Pension Application says he lived in Castine until 14 December 1861 and Stockton until November 1878. In Rockland after that date. Mustered in as a 2nd Lieutenant, Company B, 2nd Regiment, Maine Volunteers on 13 May 1861, discharged due to disability 06 August 1861. Wounded in the Battle of Bull Run, where his company was in action 21 July 1861. The declaration for invalid pension, filed 31 October 1881, says he was 5'7" with a light complexion, brown hair and blue eyes. His application says he "received a severe contusion in his left knee, lacerating the same just below the knee...that by the exposure and exhaustion of battle he caught a cold, which terminated in a rheumatic fever (which) have produced chronic rheumatism which affects his leg. He claims pension for said injury and for rheumatism." He claimed total disability and unable to work as a carpenter.
