Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

David received 300 acres in the "Borden Tract" from his father, John McCroskey, Sr. in the following transaction:

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

  • Deed Book 6:129 -- 4th January, 1754. John McCOSKERY, Sr., to David McCOSKERY, 300 acres conveyed by Borden to John 21st August, 1747. Cor. Wm. Buchanan, Isaac Anderson's line on Back Creek. [Chalkley, V3, page 322].

Disposition of Land from Chalkley's:

  • Deed Book 18:261 -- 13th January, 1772. David McCOSKRY and Grisel ( ) to Samuel Kirkpatrick, £10, 100 acres on Mill Creek in Timber Grove, part of Borden's 92,100. Teste: Alexander McCOSKRY. Delivered: Michael Dickey. 28th July, 1774. [Chalkley, V3:520].

From Chalkley's Augusta County, Virginia Court Records:

  • Page 74. - - 9th March, 1787. David McCoskry's will - - To wife, Grisel, until son John arrives to 21 years, executrix; to son, John, testator's plantation; to daughters, Elizabeth, Jean, Martha, Ann, Esher, Agness; to oldest daughter, Elizabeth, daughter, Esther; to wife and children, land on Licking Creek, Kentucky. Executors, wife, Jonathan Poage, James Tedford. Teste: Jno. McKemey, Wm. Morrows, Robert Cooper, Henry Venus. Proved, 17th June, 1788, by Morrow and Cooper. McKoskry and Poage qualify. Tedford appears and declines to qualify.
  • Page 85.--9th July, 1788. David McKoskry's estate appraised by Robert Cooper, Andrew Kennedy, Robt. Herris (?).
