Overview

David (2) was probably present in Old Augusta in the early 1740's. In 1747 he filed suit against John McMaster over a tract of land in the "Irish Settlement in Virginia" (i.e., Old Augusta). This places him in the area before 1747, but he was probably there prior to that.

Wives

David Hays appears to have had two wives. His wife Jane/Jean is listed in to land transactions in 1751 and 1756 (as shown above), but David names his wife "Isabella" in his will written in 1775 (as shown below). There is no indication in the will that any of David's children were minors at the time of his death. This implies that they were all born prior to 1754. Since Jane was still living in 1756, per land transactions, we can assume that she was the mother of all of David's children.

• Page 480.--16th August, 1785. Commissioners report they cannot settle David Hays' estate for lack of vouchers. They report that the administrator of Geo. Waildon was paid in 1779-1780 fifteen pounds more than the estate amounted to.
