Uncertain lineage

The only David Fisher born in Norton at an appropriate age is the son of John and Mary. The fact that the date exactly matches his stated age at death also supports this birth. However, we have no definite evidence that David, wife of Ruth Bliss, was in fact born in Norton.

Possible Revolutionary War service

A number of David Fishers from Massachusetts served in the Revolutionary War. The following entries are from Source:Massachusetts, United States. Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionary War, vol. 5, p. 691:

  • Fisher, David, Stoughtonham. Lieutenant, Capt. Edward Bridge Savel's (1stStoughtonham) co., Col. Robinson's regt., which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775; service, 4 days; also, 2d Lieutenant, Capt. Stephen Penniraan's co., Col. Lemuel Robinson's regt. ; list of officers dated 1776.
  • Fisher, David. Private, Capt. Theophilus Wilder's co.. Col. Dike's regt.; service probably from Dec. 30, 1776, to March 1, 1777 ; credited to town of Stoughtonham.

  • Fisher, David. Private, Capt. Caleb Champney's co., Maj. Nathaniel Heath's de- tachment of guards; enlisted July 28, 1779; discharged Oct. 1, 1779; service, 2 mos. 3 days, at and about Boston.
  • Fisher, David. Private, Capt, Alexander Foster's co., Col. John Daggett's regt. service, 25 days; company marched to Rhode Island on the alarm of Dec. 8,1777 [6] ; also, Capt. Alexander Foster's co.. Col. Given that David's children were born in Attleboro in the 1760s, the second to last entry (Alexander Foster's co.) seems likely to apply to the present subject.
