Facts and Events
David came to Royalston from Attleboro probably in early 1790 (the History of Royalston says "about 1790;"[3] the Royalston VRs show that he filed a marriage intention on 9 August 1790[4]). He bought a 100-acre farm[5], and returned to Attleboro to marry Sophia in December 1790. We might infer that obtaining some property was a precondition of his marriage. David farmed his property in West Royalston until his death.
He was selectman in 1815,[6] assessor 7 years (1796-7, 1813-17),[7] and a member of the school committee for 9 years (1810-17, 1822).[8] He was a Quaker, and a leader of West Royalston group called the "Free Donation Society" that opposed mandatory taxation to support ministers.[9][3]
Styled "Captain" in in the History of Royalston;[3] referent is unclear.
