Notes

From Rootsweb Message Board:

Dianah Elkins was born in 1814-1816 in what was then Cabell County, Virginia to the parents of Daniel Elkins and Rachel Elkins. Rachel would be the daughter of William Elkins and Ann Smith. Daniel is most likely the son of either Zach or Richard Elkins, brothers of William. Making Rachel and Daniel first cousins. Quite common for first cousins to marry back then, Zach's daughter Levinia married Richard's son James, Richard's daughter Martha married William's son Elijah.
Daniel and Rachel had at least 2 sons and 2 daughters, per the 1820 Cabell census. They may have had one more son and one more daughter between 1820-1825.
Daniel died between 1825-1828. At which point Rachel marries her second husband, William McNeely. Making Wm. McNeely, Dianah's step-father. My research also leads me to believe that the Daniel Elkins (with wife Elizabeth and children) in the 1850 Logan census right next door to Rachel and William McNeely is Rachel's son from her 1st marriage, and brother to Dianah. In the 1840 Logan census we find Jemima and Augustus Walls next door to Wm. and Rachel. Jemima is the daughter of Rachel and sister to Dianah.
