Cyrus Chipman M.D. was born in Salisbury, Litchfield County, Connecticut, on 3 December 1761[2]. In early life he was a militiaman and served in the Revolutionary War. After studying medicine he began its practice in Pawlett, Vt. where his brother, Lemuel, was located. Removing in 1795 to Pittstown (now Richmond) N. Y., he made large purchases of land and was for a time interested in mercantile operations which involved him in troublesome but not grave loss[2]. He resumed his successful medical practice and from 1821 until his death practiced his profession and resided in Oakland Co., Michigan[2]. He married Anna Fitch probably in Pawlett, Vt., on 3 October 1787[2]. Cyrus died on 17 September 1840[2] in Rochester, Oakland County, Michigan[3], at age 78. His body was interred at Mt. Avon Cemetery in Rochester, Oakland County, Michigan[4]. The gravestone bears inscriptions for both Cyrus and his wife, Anna. His part reads:

   DIED

Oct. 17, 1840 Aged 79 Years

In addition, another plaque has been placed at the foot of the stone which reads:
