"Christopher REYNOLDS bore a name that had a long history in England, dating originally to REYNOLDS-son-of-GREFERTH who came to the island with Danish invaders who occupied the eastern half of the island. GREFERTH and his two sons were driven from England about 944, and took refuge in Normandy, where Danes had also located. Over a hundred years later, some of their decendants returned to England after the Norman conquest.
REYNOLDS was born in the southeastern English county of Kent, the eldest of the seven children of Robert REINOLDS ( sometimes spelled Rennolds or Runnels). He himself was the father of eight sons and a daughter. He moved to London in later life, where he and his sons engaged in trade and commerce. His brother Nathaniel was also involved in the trading business.
Four sons eventually travelled to the New World; Richard, Christopher and Robert went to Virginia. William landed in Bermuda, possibly to develop new trade opportunities in the emerging colonies."
