CHRISTIAN was a drummer boy in the REVOLUTIONARY WAR at the 1777 Battle of Brandywine. Below is an image of the old DRUM. The photograph was e-mailed to "White Creek" by Jack Akerboom. The drum is owned by Christian's descendants in Coshocton County, Ohio. Later, Christian was a blacksmith and farmer in Mill Creek Township, Coshocton County, Ohio.

In the large volume of books of the "PENNSYLVANIA ARCHIVES" (available in various libraries) there are a number of references to various Christian Lowers in the area (circa 1800), including one who was a Brigadier General. It is doubtful the reference is of this Christian Lower. Another was a Lt. col. and a couple were privates.

Below is a Topographical Map of the area near New Bedford, Ohio. On the map there is printed "boundary line", which is the divide between Crawford Township, Coshocton County, and Holmes County. Just north of New Bedford, and very faint on the map, cemeteries are designated on either side of the diagonal road, just inside the Coshocton Co. border! This is where Christian and many of his family members are buried.

  4. It would seem that "Holly N Ashby Hofmann" is in error regarding the location of the cemetery in NEW BEDFORD. This researcher has been to the cemetery (it has many stones with the LOWER surname), and it is recalled that the cemetery is actually in Coshocton County, Ohio! However, Holmes County is adjacent to this area, and perhaps the townhip was a part of Holmes County in circa 1831?
  5. There is a Revolutionary War marker on his grave. There are many Lower tombstones in this cemetery. Unfortunately, "White Creek" has not returned to list all of them.
  6. "Holly N Ashby Hofman" states that he migrated to Dover Township, Tuscarawas Co., Ohio, and then to Coshocton Co., Ohio, in the early 1820's.
