Charlotte Primet was baptised on 12th June 1785 at Great Wymondley in Hertfordshire, daughter of Sarah Primet, formerly Dixon, and her husband Thomas Primet. She was the seventh of eight children, although two of her older siblings had died young before Charlotte was born.

In 1807 Charlotte was married, aged 22, to a labourer named George Worbey or Walby. Between 1808 and 1825 they had eight sons, all baptised at Great Wymondley, although some of the baptisms record that the family actually lived at Walsworth, in Hitchin parish but close to Great Wymondley.

Charlotte's mother died in 1821, and her father in 1829. Both were buried at Great Wymondley.

Charlotte's eldest son was married in 1831, and her first known grandchild was born later that year, when Charlotte was 46. Charlotte's son Frederick died in 1839, aged 25. The 1841 census finds Charlotte, George and some of their younger sons living in the Walsworth area of Hitchin. George at this time was described as a publican. Newspaper reports from the 1830s and 1840s make clear that George kept a beer house at Walsworth. The Hitchin Tithe Map of 1844 shows George owned the buildings now known as 89-91 Woolgrove Road.

George and Charlotte were still living at Walsworth in the 1851 census, although George was no longer described as a publican; he had reverted to being an agricultural labourer. George died in 1852, aged 73. Charlotte's son Joseph died in 1856.

After George's death Charlotte continued to live at Walsworth, appearing in the 1861 census living with a Thomas Warboys whose relationship to her is unclear.

Charlotte's eldest son John died in 1865, leaving four surviving children who had already lost their mother. Two weeks after John's death Charlotte wrote her will, making clear that she wanted her grandchildren whose fathers had died to receive what would have been their father's share of her estate. Charlotte lived to see at least 54 grandchildren born in her lifetime, although some of them died young, and Charlotte appears to have become a great grandmother in the 1860s.

Charlotte died at Hitchin on 24th January 1867, aged 81. She was buried back at Great Wymondley where she had been born, and where her husband George had been buried nearly 15 years earlier.

This baptism has been identified on the basis that in the censuses Charlotte maintained that she was born about 1785 at Wymondley, and when she married in 1807 one of the witnesses was a Susan Primet - and the Charlotte baptised at Great Wymondley in 1785 had a sister called Susan.
