  1.   8. CHARLES3 STEWART (CHARLES2, WILLIAM1) was born 1775 in Monogahalia County, Virginia, and died Unknown. He married MARGARET DARNALL February 18, 1802 in Monogahalia County, Virginia, daughter of HENRY DARNALL. She died Unknown.

This Charles Stuart was known as "Little Charley" as he was named after his father. Unclear as to when this Charles moved from Monongalia County to Jackson County, but was first shown on the tax lists in 1812.
The family went to Ripley, West Virginia.

The History of Jackson County shows a Charles and John Stewart as being resident landownerss on Reedy Creek in that county durning the period 1831-42. John was a brother to Charles and later was identified in Roane County. This land later became a part of present Roane County.

The 1810 census for Monongalia County has a Charles Stuart, over 45 years of age with two sons under 10 years (William - 1802 and Elisha - 1809) and wife between 17 and 26 years. This would fit the facts known of Charles. If so, Margaret was much younger than Charles which was probably true as her last child Sarah was born in 1818 whne Charles would have been 48 years old. If this is the case, Charles moved his family to Jackson County between 1810 and 1812.

Jackson County was formed in 1831 from Mason and Wood Counties. There is a Margaret Stewart on the 1820 Wood census and ages of the children would match, but no Charles. There is a Charles on the 1830 Wood census but it is not a match with the children's ages.
