Obituary

Charles Lammers
Leaving a family of young men and women and a widow who all are taking an active part in the city's work and a host of friends among the people of the city, Charles Lammers died Thursday afternoon, lacking only a month of being 82 years old. Caring not for business, he used his influence in a less spectacular but none the less valuable way -- that of having a helping hand ready for the stranger and the down and out men and women with whom he came in contact.

Born in Wheeling, W. Va., he came to this city when a young man. After he had been here a few years he married Jennie Neukom, daughter of Henry Neukom. Had he lived until next Saturday, the couple would have celebrated their forty-ninth wedding anniversary. He had always expressed a desire to live until he could celebrate their golden wedding.

His time was given to the rearing of his six children: Edward and Ronald, of the Lammers Paint copany; Charles, of Danville, Ill.; Minnie and Louise, teachers at Garfield, and Mrs. Winona Amsdon, of Denver. Up until his retirement two years ago he was with the Levi Dry Goods company.

His health has been failing for the last few years. Two weeks ago he was stricken with erysipelas. Later stomach and heart trouble complicated his condition. He was conscious and recognized members of the family until the last. The daughter from Denver arrived Wednesday evening. Only Charles Lammers, of Danville, was not present at the time of his death.

He has long been identified with the First Methodist church work, his special interest being in the young men. He never attended the older men's class, but was to be found every Sunday with the young men.
