Notes

Charles Houchin first appears in Kentucky records in 1801.
December 21, 1801, Charles Houchin took up 400 acres of land in Warren county adjoining that of John Houchin on Green River.
Charles Houchin followed his brother, John to Kentucky and was on Green River by 1800, being taxed 12 Feb 1801 for 1 male over 21 and 1 horse; likewise in 1802, plus taxes for 100 acres of land adjoining his brother, John. Charles married Molly Sale, dau. of John Sale.
Later he was taxed for 135 acres on Swan Creek in Warren county. A deed dated Nov 11, 1817, can be found in Deed Book "N", pg 437 Amherst county, Va., in which Charles and Molly Houchin of Hardin county, Ky., sell to Thomas Sale of Amherst county, their interest in land in Amherst county, "the same that John Sale died possessed of". Attested by John D. Houchin, Asel Davis, and Cornelius Sale.
In a will filed for probate in Amherst county court Aug 7, 1809, John Sale "lends wife, Frances Sale, one third of whole estate during her life, and at her death to be divided as follows, item, I give to my daughter, Molly Sale who married Charles Houchin twenty dollars Virginia currency to be by her enjoyed as she pleases and also it is my desire that one tenth part of the two thirds of my estate be kept in the hands of my executors for the benefit of my daughter Molly Houchin or her heirs as they, my executors, may see fit to appropriate it, saving to said executors any expense that they may incur in consequence a visit should be necessary to the western country where she resides..." No record of Charles Houchin is found in Hardin county, but a statement of war service in the Revolutionary War made by his is recorded in Edmonson Co., Ky., Order Book 1831-1855, page 120, as follows: "The declaration of Charles Houchin of Edmonson county, Ky., in order to obtain the benefit of an act of congress approved 7th June 1832, was presented in open court and the court are of the opinion that the signature of William Mitchell, Jesse C. Roundtree to said declarations are their genuine signatures, that they are justices of the Peace for the county of Edmonson, that the deponents Jesse Moon (a minister of the gospel), James Roundtree and Asel Davis are entitled to credit on oath, and that from common report they believe that Charles Houchin, the applicant, was a revolutionary soldier which is ordered to be certified."
Court of June 6th 1836. With the foregoing Charles Houchin disappears from the records.
