Syracuse Sunday Herald, 20 July 1902: FELL TWENTY FEET / Two Men Have a Narrow Escape at an Orwell Factory Orwell, July 10-- An accident happened at the chair factory yesterday in which two men narrowly escaped being killed. There Is a long bridge which connects the paint shop with the upholstering building and chairs are run over on a car. Yesterday the car was loaded up and started across the bridge. When about twenty feet from the shed which shelters the car the bridge gave way precipitating car, chairs and two men, Lemuel Chase and Charley Durgee, to the bottom, a distance of about twenty feet. Utica Daily Press, July 1902: BRIDGE FELL / Two Men Painfully Injured at Orwell... Orwell, July 24-- The bridge leading from one building to another of F.B. Woodbury's chair factory gave way yesterday and two men and a car load of chairs fell a distance of about 20 feet. Charles Durgee and Lemuel Chase are the men that were injured; Mr. Durgee's shoulder dislocated, two ribs cracked and a bad cut on one limb.

Oswego Palladium-Times, 21 May 1926: PINE MEADOWS Charles Durgee was kicked by a horse Sunday and sustained a serious injury to his shoulder. He was taken to Ideal East hospital, where his many friends hope he will make a speedy recovery.

Oswego Palladium-Times, 3 Aug 1927: AWARD OF $1878 TO ORWELL MAN LARGEST MADE ... The award of $1,878.24 to Charles Durgee of Orwell in Compensation Court this morning was the largest made in the local session in several weeks. A number of cases were settled by Referee James P. Richardson. Durgee was injured while engaged in road work for the town of Orwell. After examination this morning by Dr. David Conway, commission examiner, a recommendation of 35 per cent, loss of the use of the right arm was made and the award based on this recommendation. It amounted To [illegible] weeks at the rate of $10.72. A considerable portion of this has already been paid in weekly installments.

Oswego Palladium-Times, 27 June 1952: CHARLES N. DURGEE Orwell-- Charles N. Durgee, 81, died last night at the Webb Funeral Home in Sandy Creek after an illness of 18 months. Mr. Durgee was born in Amboy on Sept. 25, 1870, the son of George and Mary Jane Kinney Durgee. He spent the greater part of his life in Orwell and was employed by the town highway department in latter years. He was a member of the Methodist church and Riker Grange. He married Miss Anna Stevens in 1898. Her death occurred in 1914. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Genevieve Miner, Orwell and Mrs. Esther Hager, Sandy Creek, and a son, Marvin Durgee, Miami, Fla.; also a sister, Mrs. Malcolm (Clara) Beach of Lakeland, Fla. The funeral will be held at the Weston & Woodard funeral home in Sandy Creek... Sunday afternoon with the service to be conducted by the Rev. Wesley Baker of Orwell. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home...


Oswego Palladium-Times, 2 July 1952: BEQUESTS MADE... / Petitions Filed in Several Estates Today in Surrogate's Court... Petition for probate of the will of Charles W. Durgee, Orwell, was filed by Genevieve Minor of Sandy Creek, a daughter, as executrix. Testator bequeathed his estate to petitioner, another daughter, Mrs. Esther Hager of Sandy Creek, and a son, Marvin Durgee of Miami FL. Value of estate is $1,574.64. Warner & McNaughton of Pulaski are attorneys.

Letters testamentary were issued to a daughter, Genevieve Minor of Sandy Creek. She, with a sister Esther Harger, Sandy Creek, and a brother, Marvin Durgee, Miami, Fla. share the estate.
