    obituary: Had 1 brother & 1 sister who died before her. Came to America at age 10. Married Adam Knipfer at age 17. Had 14 children, 4 died as infants. Living at time of her death were: John Knipfer, Mrs. J.B. Brooks, Adam Hensler Knipfer, & Mrs. C. Henry.

    "Katherin B. Bender was born in Germany July 7th, 1841, and departed this life February 7th, 1925. Age 83 years and 7 months. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Disqua, one of a familyof three children, there being one sister and one brother, both of whom have preceded her to the great beyond.
    At the age of ten years her parents left Germany moving to Lawrenceburg, Indiana, where she practically spent her entire life, the only exception being a few years when she lived in Petersburg, Kentucky.

    At the age of seventeen years she was unite in marriage to Adam Knipfer, and to this union were born fourteen children, four of whom passed away in infancy. Of this family there remain four children, John Knipfer, Mrs.J. B. Brooks, Adam Knipfer, and Mrs. C. Henry. Mr. Knipfer died December 28th, 1891.

    Mrs. Knipfer was united in marriage to Adam Bauer in 1893, there were no children born to this union. Mr. Bauer died February 11th, 1901. In 1907, Mrs. Bauer was united in marriage to Anthony Bender, to this union there were no children born. Mr. Bender passed away in 1915.

    For the last three years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. J.B. Brooks. Mrs. Bender has enjoyed comparatively good health until her recent illness, and was only in bed three days with pneumonia. She united with the Lutheran church in 1887. All who knew her found a faithful friend, ever ready and anxious to help them in any way possible. Seeking always to serve them in sickness or need. To know her was to love her. Everything possible was done for her and during her recent illness nothing was left undone to comfort her, but her Master called her to the reward of a faithful servant, rest and peace with Him.

    She leaves to mourn their loss, four children, John Knipfer, Mrs. J. B.Brooks, Adam Knipfer, and Mrs. C. Henry; thirty grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren, and other relatives together with a hostof friends.

    Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. B. BrooksTuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. E. L. Mullins of the Baptist church. Burial in Petersburg, Ky."

  9. According to a family story, she came to U.S. at age 10 in a trip that took three months. During a storm, she got her foot caught in a rope and was almost pulled into the sea, but sailors saw it and caught her just before she fell in. (According to the ship's records, she was age 8 at the time of immigration.)

  11. After the death of her daughter in April 1910, Barbara moved in with her son-in-law, George Batchelor, to help him raise her grandchildren. Those kids always called her, "Grandma Bender."
