Greensboro News & Records February 23, 2005 BURLINGTON: Mrs Carrie Mae Shoffner Thomas, 79, of 100 Wade Coble Drive, formerly of 4258 Kimesville Road, died at 3:15 am Tuesday, Feb 22, 2005, at Twin Lakes Center. The funeral will be held 11 am Thursday at St Paul's Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev Dr S Perry, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Born in Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Saunders Shoffner and Joy Agnes Coble Shoffner. She was retired from J C Penney. A member of St Paul's Lutheran Church, she was a member of the Faithful Sunday School Class and St Paul's Women. Among her interests during the years were furniture building, sewing, tole painting, pottery, clogging and flower gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Baxter Thomas, sister Mrs Mary Shoffner Wells and brother Mr Robert Saunders Shoffner. She is survived by daughters, Mrs Frances Sharon Newnam and husband Tom of Wake Forest. Ms Ann Thomas Whitworth of Owings, MD, Mrs Beth Thomas Graves and husband Von of Burlington and Mrs Myra Thomas Smith and husband Daryle of Danville, VA; grandchildren, Shannon Beth Graves-King, James Thomas Newnam III, Justin Von Graves, Jennifer Newnam Giardino, Brian Michael Whitworth, Emily Ann Whitworth, Logan Thomas Smith and Carrie Virginia Smith; great-grandchildren, Jennyfer Denise Holland and Ashley Blair Holland and great-granddaughter expected to arrive in March, Carter Thomas King; sisters, Mrs Ruth Shoffner McPherson and Mrs Edna Shoffner Shoe, both of Burlington. The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 pm today and other times at the residence of Beth and Von Graves, 2630 Jacobs Trail, Burlington. References
