I'll send that file. Can you tell me about someone named Valentine Nix? I remember my grandfather talking about him from time to time. Several of his family is burried in a cemetary along the Warrior River, I thought the town's name was Warrior, but I'm not sure. I do know it is in Etowah County. If you have another email address, would you send it to me? I've been looking for the file (off and on) since I got your email this morning and will send it as soon as I can. I'm doing some observation work right now for Auburn University, so it may take a day or two. My grandfather's sister, Irene Pate lives in Pell City, AL and I believe she knows a good bit about the family. She was Berlie's youngest sibling. She extremely kind and althought getting old, is very entergetic. I really should go see her. I'll go ahead and tell you. Berlie was a very hard father to his children. When I went to live with him, I became his 2nd chance at fatherhood and my aunts and uncles began to resent me terribly. I don't keep in touch with them and to be honest, I don't want to. However, other members of the family I do like to know about, but I'm embarrassed about my relationship with Kim, Phyllis, Keith, and Craig (my father). When Craig was born he went 10 minutes without breathing and although not diagnosed with brain damage, he's clearly not quite right. But, he can't help it. He never has been able to and I understand that. He couldn't handle being a father and walked out when I was about 10 months old. However, my mother, Sharon Webster Hackett (remarried), couldn't afford children on her own and sent my sister and I to live with Berlie and Earline. We lived with them until 1985, and in 1992 I decided to move back in with them. I always called Berlie (DAD), and was 6 before I learned that he wasn't my real father. He told me that he would always be my "DAD" so I never called him anything else. He died when I was 16. My grandmother and I weren't particularly close. She felt like she shouldn't have to raise her grandchild, but I felt I should stay with her after his death, even though I didn't want to. I'd better go now before I spend the rest of the evening in tears. Let's keep in touch.

J. Paul Nix, call me Paul.

It seems no one knows Molly's maiden name. I asked Earline several times, but she could never remember, I'll send for my uncle Keith and see if he knows. I do know that she was half Creek or Cherokee Indian. I heard on many many occasions of her brother or father being severly crippled and being burried sitting up in a rocking chair.

Ellis did marry Lethy (I don't know the spelling, but it was pronounced Leeth E). They had a son named Waco, he's about 50 now.

Irene does still live with Roger. I too have come across an obit for another Irene Pate. As far as the middle initial, I don't know. Roger and Sherry's son's are Jason (oldest) and Brandon.

The more I hear from you, the more comes back to me.

I'm working now, but will most likely email again this evening.
