"Benjamin Tremain (14) b. 2 Feb 1724, at Westfield, MA son of John and Rebecca (Granger) Tremain, m. 15 May 1749 at Sheffield Rhoda, dau. of Thomas and Margaret (_____) Pier of Great Barrington, b. 1 Aug 1732, at Sheffield, d. 28 Jan 1768 at Great Barrington. He d. after 1788, location uncertain.

Benjamin was the first of Philip's sons to leave Westfield. He moved to Sheffield, probably before his marriage in the spring of 1749. He was part of a group which purchased land from the Stockbridge Indians in 1756 and later land in Egremont. The Massachusetts Tax Roll describes significant assets. He cared for his son Solomon's children after the death of their mother in April 1788 for about one year. It seems likely that Benjamin remarried following Rhoda's death since the Congregational Church in Clinton, NY records the burial of the wife of Benjamin Tremain, 5 Feb 1805, age 70."
