"Philip Tremain (1) b. ____ at _____ son of _____ … he d. 22 May 1743. … Philip lived his entire married life in Westfield. On 5 May 1718, the Town of Westfield granted him five acres on Pine Hill, on the condition 'he continue in the Town 12 years if not, it is to return to the Town again'. He was thereafter awarded ten more acres on 28 January 173 3/34 and an additional ten acres in March 1734/35. A further grant approved on 25 Feb 1739/40 is the last mention of Philip in the record of Town actions. There is no indication of his holding any public office or being other than a typical pioneer of the era, probably with farming, lumbering and hunting skills. Philip's surname in old records appears as 'Treemen'."
