Benjamin Drake Conkling, son of William and Elizabeth (Glen) Conkling was born on 9 May 1840 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Around 1871, he married Caroline Newman Sinclair, a native of New Hampshire. Some time after this they moved to Whitewater (Walworth County), Wisconsin where Carolyn wrote her will on 21 June 1880. This will was filed in Rice County, Kansas in November, 1902. The 1880 census shows Benjamin and Caroline living in Whitewater, Wisconsin with an adopted daughter. By 1900 Benjamin and Caroline were living in Lyons (Rice County), Kansas along with other family members. The 1900 census does not identify that they had any children. Caroline died around 28 November 1902 as her notice of estate settlement was first published on that date. Benjamin and Caroline are buried in the Lyons, Kansas Public Cemetery.
