Beatrice Palmer was born on 10th March 1904 at Glapthorn in Northamptonshire, England. She was the daughter of Eliza Palmer, formerly Berridge, and her husband Thomas Palmer, a carpenter and hawker. Beatrice was the youngest of the couple's thirteen children. The 1911 census finds the family living at Lower Glapthorn.

In 1926, aged 22, Beatrice married a baker named William James Fox, who had grown up in the neighbouring town of Oundle. They had one daughter together. At the outbreak of the Second World War they were living at Upper Glapthorn, next door to Beatrice's parents.

Beatrice died in 1965, aged 61. William outlived her by 27 years.
