According to Fern Brown née Bower, August's house burned down before he died. He had rented it out to someone when it happened.

==August Weissgerber Dies==
August Weissgerber was born in Ohio April 21st, 1857, and departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Kessel, February 11th, 1943, at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 21 days.
He was the son of Reverend Fred- rick and Caroline Weissgerber. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church at an early age. He left Ohio and came to Randolph County, Illinois, in 1879, where he met and was united in marriage to Nancy Miller in 1884, who preceded him in death October 5, 1935. To this union four daugh- ters and one son were born, Clara Davis, who preceded him in death May 26, 1941. Those surviving are: Hattie Reeves of Monroe, Louisiana, Sophia Kessel, of Ava, Josephine Bower of East St. Louis. He also leaves to mourn his death 13 grand- children and several nephews, nieces and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Geo. Kessel, near Ava, Saturday, February 13, 1943, at 1:30 o'clock, by the Rev. Theo. A. Kessel. Interment was made in Bower Cemetery.
