Utica Daily Press, 30 June 1941: Arthur Durgee, 18, Camden, was killed when struck by a bolt of lightning while standing at the kitchen sink in his home, combing his hair.

Utica Daily Press, 1 July 1941: ARTHUR DURGEE Arthur Durgee, 18, of Railroad ST, killed instantly Saturday afternoon when he was struck by lightning in his home, was born in Camden Jan. 7, 1923 and had lived here all his life. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Durgee, he was one of the seniors graduated last Monday night from Camden High School. He was active in school work and was a member of the track team, the High School chorus, the wrestling team and sang in the class operetta last spring. At the graduation exercises Monday he sang in a quartet which included three of his classmates. He had just been engaged at work at the tennis racquet factory in the village. Besides his parents, he is survived by four brothers, Lyle, Roland, Reynard and Zane, and his grandmother. The funeral will be tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Sanborn Funeral Parlors, with the Rev. H.A. Walton of the United Church officiating.

Rome Daily Sentinel, 3 July 1941: DURGEE FUNERAL LARGELY ATTENDED Camden, July 3-- Funeral services for Arthur M. Durgee, whose sudden and tragic death shocked the entire village last Saturday afternoon, when he was killed by a bolt of lightning, were conducted at the B. A. Sanborn & Son funeral home Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. Bertram A. Walton, pastor of the United Church, officiated. The bearers were six school chums, Hal Bell, Frank Tuscher, Jack Lewis, George Babcock, Ward E. Mellon and Robert Greindle. The service was very largely attended with a delegation of members of Camden High School attending in a body, Principal D. H. Barker and several of the school faculty. Plans are made for interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery. It was decided to hold the body a few days longer, due to the fact that no acknowledgment of the death telegram sent to a brother, Lyle, who is stationed at Camp McClelland, Alabama, had been received. There were many floral pieces numbering about fifty from the following: Rescue Hook and Ladder Co. of Camden Fire Department... Attending from out of town were...
