Ann Stanes was baptised on 9th December 1743 at Welwyn in Hertfordshire, daughter of William Stanes.

On 20th October 1763, Ann married William Males at Welwyn. After their marriage they settled in the neighbouring parish of Codicote, where they had ten children baptised between 1764 and 1781, although at least four of these died young.

Ann died at the age of 39. She was buried at Codicote on 26th March 1783. William survived her by seven years, and remarried in 1787.
