Ann Moles was born on 10th April 1794 at Stotfold in Bedfordshire, daughter of Mary Moles, formerly Horsley, and her husband Thomas Moles, a labourer. Ann was the only child the couple had together, although Thomas did also have five children from his first marriage. Ann was not baptised as a baby.

When Ann was just six years old, her mother died. Ann was baptised a couple of months after her mother's death. Her father did not remarry again.

By 1815, Ann had left Stotfold and moved to the neighbouring parish of Norton, just across the county boundary into Hertfordshire. At Norton she was married on 1st April 1815 to a labourer and gardener named Samuel Smith, who was also from Stotfold. Ann's half-sister Susan was one of the witnesses to their marriage. Susan also moved to Stotfold, marrying there the following year, and Ann's father Thomas also came to live at Norton with Susan.

Ann and Samuel stayed in Norton, having three children baptised there between 1817 and 1824. Ann's father Thomas died in 1838, leaving his estate to be split between Ann and her half-siblings Susan and Thomas. Ann's husband, Samuel Smith, was the executor of the estate.

Ann and Samuel's son Thomas died in 1841, aged 16. The census taken a couple of weeks later finds Ann, Samuel and their son William living in Norton.

The 1851 and 1861 censuses each find Ann and Samuel living together in Norton.

Ann died in 1869, aged 75. She was buried at Norton on 14th April 1869. After her death Samuel went to live with their son William, who had become publican of The Chequers public house in Stotfold. Samuel survived Ann by 15 years, dying aged 93.
