- known as a horse trainer
- claimed to be the grandson of Cornelius Van Horne through his mother Elizabeth VH. in "The History of Crawford County" 1885;
- he was 15 years old when CVH died;
- he must have met CVH when he was younger at family gatherings, etc.
- Either CVH was the adopted father of EVH, or the actual father; I suspect the later.
- Who EVH was is the real mystery. Could she have been the offspring of CVH and a slave brought out from NJ to run the household while he tamed the land prior to the women arriving from NJ? Look at the pictures of AJ - could he be 1/4 black? I think it is possible, and the most logical explanation. It will likely never be verified though. Perhaps DNA analysis from Janet's hair diary of the Sloan family would answer the question?
- Great Aunt Harriet's notes: "On Marker at Dicksonburg Cemetary: Andrew J. Sloan 1832-1908 Margaret E. Sloan 1839-1903"
-Family Bible states birth as 10 29 1833, not 1832
