Greene County, TN Court Records: 15 May 1827, James Walker, Samuel Walker, David Walker, Joseph Walker, Daniel I. Walker, James Pickens and Polly his wife, formerly Polly Walker, Martin Fry and Letitia his wife formerly Letitia Walker and Peggy Kilgore formerly Peggy Walker heirs at law of Anderson Walker Dec.d. vs. Henry Henegar, Samuel Henderson, William Chapman and Elizabeth his wife formerly Elizabeth Henderson, William Hall and Sarah his wife formerly Sarah Henderson, John M. Kilgore and Lydia his wife formerly Lydia Henderson, Joseph Craigmiles and Bethsheba his wife formerly Bethsheba Henderson, Merryman Payne and Dorcas his wife formerly Dorcas Henderson, and John Henderson and Merryman Payne executors of the last will and Testament of John Henderson Dec'd. and now on the Tuesday 15th May 1827. Present day came William Hall and Sarah his wife, William Chapman and Elizabeth his wife, Samuel Henderson, William Grant and Abigail his wife, Joseph Craigmiles and Bathsheba his wife, Jean Kilgore, John M. Kilgore and Lydia his wife, Merryman Payne and Dorcas his wife, Jacob Rinehart and Mary his wife, and John Henderson heirs at law of John Henderson dec'd and John Henderson and Merryman Payne the personal Representatives of the said John Henderson dec'd and with leave of the court say that they claim no Interest in the subject matter in Dispute in this cause, and they hereby disclaim all Right, Title or claim to the same, and they prey to be hence dismissed with their reasonable costs in this behalf expended. Court adjourned until Tomorrow morning at 9 O;Clock.

Greene County, TN Court Records: 14 November 1827, John Love vs. James Shields, Original Bill. This cause coming on to be heard before the Honorable Jacob Peck Chancellor, on the Bill of the complainant answer of the Defendant, replication, exhibits and proof and it appearing by the testimony of Hugh Magill, that he leased of the complainant all the land purchased by catching and gave up all the woodland he bought of catching to Love Complainant and complainant gave witness a lease for the life of witness and his wife and he agreed to pay complainant a gallon of corn yearly, the quantity of acres surrendered to Love the Complainant he says is fourteen acres, and if the title thereto was free from dispute Witness thought is was worth four dollars per acre and he would have purchased if he had been prepared to purchase he further stated that about the year 1799 or 1800, he was present when Philip Love run off a tract of land for Defendant which Defendant bought of said Love as attorney in fact for said Complainant and the Defendant was present when the land was run out, and the witness recollected the marking of the beginning corners of the Tract and the last corner, that Shields the defendant was not far off the chain carriers when the land was run, but whether close to them the witness could not say, it seemed to witness like a dream, he carried the foe part of the chain, but could not certainly say, Anderson Walker was one of the chain carriers, I remember after running out Walker handed the person the fourchain all the sticks when he should have retained one, I gave Walker a broad? look, and Mr. Shields looked at him and shook his head, whether he spoke or not witness did not remember, the witness being asked whether Mr. Shields smiled and appeared well pleased with the conduct of the chain carriers not measuring the land correctly the complainant asked him the question at Wiliam Magill's some time ago, I made a mistake and told the complainant he did not seem pleased at the time. I thought that Wilson and Walker carried the chain round the tract that Shields had bought of Love, sesidl? that time I have become satisfied it was another tract that carried the chain round when that took place, and Philip Love was not the surveyor of the other tract, being asked by complainant if he did not tell him that the carriers were a great distance apart to hold that much land, and thinking at the time that, that was the tract that Walker and Wilson carried the chain around, I did go and show the last corner of Shields tract where they stop[p]ed running when Philip Love made the survey ~ the witness further stated that he and Defendant had a little conversation on the subject and but little, and it was not from any conversation between Shields and himself that enabled him to correct the mistake but from a conversation with his wife who recollected Mr. Shields sent for me to carry the chain and it was not Walker and Wilson, and also by a subscription paper to build a meeting house which satidfied me that Wilson was not in the neighborhood, being cross examined stated that on Walker's handling all the sticks, instead of returning one, the look of Shields was a look of disapprobation and he shook his head at the time at Walker and Mr. Shields was frequently before that day with Philip Love whilst the survey was making James Patterson a witness deposed he surveyed the land in dispute, to run according to the course and distance in the Deed of Defendant Shields from complainants Attorney in fact there is 143 acres, but to run with the marked lines found corresponding with the calls of the Deed by reversing there is a greater quantity say between fifty and one hundred acres more than called for in the Deed.
