Alice Wright's origins have yet to be established. If the age quote when she died was correct, she was probably born around 1751. Her first confirmed sighting is on 4th August 1771, when she was married at Aston in Hertfordshire on to a labourer called George Walby. At the time of her marriage she was described as a spinster of Aston.

Alice and George had nine children together between 1772 and 1789, all baptised at Aston.

Alice's first known grandchild (her daughter Dorcas's eldest son) was born in 1803. Alice would live to see at least 21 children born in her lifetime.

Alice was buried at Aston on 10th April 1816. She was said to be 64 years old. George outlived her by five years.
